My plants in my 250g indoor pond are doing fine. But I want to try plant-gro for fun...

Anyways, I have a consistent brown algae problem, probably due to the phosphates in local water. The brown algae pops up everytime I add water.

Pl*cos doing a great job though (I just bought them yesterday).

Will plant-gro encourage more algae growth? We wouldnt want that...

If you are talking about diatoms when you mention brown algae, then what you really want to do is limit their access to silicates. They need this these ions to build their skeletons, so if you limit this, they will recede.

If you have too many nutrients, eliminating ditoms will free up the nutrients for other types of algae.

Do you have any test kits? Please tell us what the concentrations of the nutrients like nitrates and phosphates in you water are.
