potted plants?

so right now most of the plants in my 30g are floating because my eel and pleco decide they want to be right where they are planted!! :mad2:
to stop this from happening Im thinking about potting my stem plants in terracotta pots, just wanted to get some info on soil to gravel or sand ratio I should use in the pots. I don't want a crazy muddy mess but it seems the soil will be greatly beneficial to the plants, who have already suffered enough with the constant moving!

Why not just use root tabs and gravel instead. Some soils may have chemicals, ect in them.

I find some biggish rocks near the plant base help keep plants planted with diggers. If you do pots allow room for root growth.
