View Full Version : How often to feed...

... nickel size angels? I've been dropping in some small sinkers (1mm, and I crush them a little) every few hours, and every time I do, they go at them like they haven't eaten in days! Is that too often, or not often enough? I don't want to overfeed them and risk fouling the water (I've done one change this morning, already, and will do a small change daily while in qt). They won't come to the top for floating food yet. But they've only been here, in a small qt tank, since last evening. Oh... I take that back... they just went up and discovered the crushed freeze dried baby shrimps I put in! And then went straight back to the sinkers. *sigh*

So, what's the official word? Or semi-official? Or not official at all, but highly recommended?

Baby Angel should be fed several times per day. at nickel size these are still juveniles so feed 3-4 X daily and change the water daily. suck up uneaten food 10-20 minutes after feeding.

Ok! That's about what I've been doing. They're pooping well, so I think they're doing alright. So far. Except for that little ich problem. But I think we'll get that under control quick.

Thanks again!

btw, I keep young angels at 82-84 all the time. like discus they seem to thrive in warmer waters.

Thanks, guys! I've never gotten angels this small before! They're so tiny and cute! I wish they didn't spook so much whenever I move - I'd like to get some decent pics of them. But whenever I move anywhere near the tank, they pale out and "run" to the back! Maybe if I weren't wearing a bright red shirt that, even with not so good fishy eyes, has to be pretty visible as a big red monster blob....

my fish seem to think dark shirts as shadows or something.

they do that when I wear dark colors.

Warm water speeds up a fishes metabolism that is partially why you raise the temp on sick and injured fish to help speed their recovery. Conversely raising the temp on fry tank help speed up their growth so when you do that you need to increase the number of feedings. @ Nickel size at those warmer temps I recommend no less than 4 but closer to 6 - 10 feeding with the best quality high protein food you can get.You will not believe how fast they will grow for you
