at raising cory fry

*sigh*

the skinny peppered cory female i think is about tapped out. however, i just noticed the fatter female doing the t with a male. hmmmmmm

*crosses fingers*

the first batch of fry all died, and the second batch of eggs never hatched. im going to try to keep the fry in a dedicated tank this time instead of the breeder net to see what happens. the second batch of eggs i tried to hatch in the breeder net, but the two fertile eggs (tan) never hatched. it was strange. so all eggs are down in the sump again, since that method seemed to work exceedingly well the first time.

71 eggs collected so far

I have one peppered that like to swim right on top of the others and touch them all over with his barbels. It is pretty cute to watch. They are all still pretty young , is this the first part of mating? Oh, and good luck with your eggs.

if it was jittering/shimmying all over the other cory, that would be the first part of mating. otherwise, it's just cory being cory. Their barbels are their method of feeling around in their world.

Good luck Jenn! I definitely think you're better off not using breeder nets. Keep us posted.

thanks

i think its going to be a pretty small batch. so far it looks like maybe 10 out of the 70ish eggs are viable :/

Not a big batch but they'll be fun just the same! I'll keep watching this for updates. Fingers crossed for ya!!

Have you any news. I find that pepper / paleateus fry are pretty viable. Do they lay on the glass or in the moss. Mine prefer the glass so it is easier to move the fish rather then the eggs. I install a small sponge filter and turn up the air. Once hatching is complete I drop the tank to half water. They need to keep a stable air bubble in the begining to have a chance a survival turn down the air. Then water changes are needed at the minimum every other day. dont feed first day or so then something ultra small egg yolk chopped and mixed with water. They call it fry starter. But be careful foul the tanks fast but only neede a couple days before they can nibble crushed flake decap eggs or live BB.
