I have seen people using blue and white leds for night lights, is there a reason why blue or white and not red or green? is it just trying to replicate the moon light color? might be a dumb question but just curious. thanks

Not a dumb ? at all....Yes, its to try and replicate the moon filtering through the water, onto the reef...

The blue lights also look very cool in a dark room. :)

thanks for the info, I have some high output leds that I had used on an automotive project and thought that i could put them to some use but I guess I will look into some blue leds.

Red is usually used to view nocturnal species and green is for enhancing plant colours.

I also read that red is detrimental to the health and growth of corals.

you mean it could possibly kill the corals?
