Does anyone have any info on the reproduction of Sand Sifting Star fish?? I had one that eventually died, but a few months later we started noticing tiny little star fish all over the glass! Now there are probably 100 or more of them in the tank - some with six legs and some with five. They've grown to about the size of a dime - and some even as big as a nickel! Did "mom" lay eggs and then die? I've looked in all my books and can't find a thing about these star fish other than pictures and tips for their care.
Thanks!

Does it look like this ?

There are little stars that hitchhike with your live rock, most of which are harmless. My guess is that they are not baby sand sifters if they are staying small.

I'll do a little looking about the reproduction when I get home, but in many species the first stages are planktonic and would do poorly in a closed system. I think you also need two parents
