Here are some pics of my new 29G planted tank. It is only 2 weeks old but has many things from my old 55G (substrate, fish, fish poo, driftwood, water) in it to help it cycle much faster. I currently have the Hydor Green NRG for CO2 and use all of the Seachem liquid ferts. I have had good luck with both.
In the tank:
Royal King Pleco
Snowball Pleco
4 Harlequin Rasboras
4 little orange tetras
3 Sterbai cories
3 Oto's
1 Hillstream loach
2 German Blue Rams
2 Unknown Rams
Lighting is Coralife either 65watts(which is what one of the bulbs says, or 130 watts with both added...not sure there either.) I have had good luck being dumb, I guess. As soon as I learn what the hell I am doing, I will kill everything.
The plants are unknown except for the java fern. I am still trying to identify them! LOL!
This first picture is what my 55G used to look like.
You will be able to tell the difference, I am sure!
Coming soon are some Amano Shrimp and 12 Nerite Snails along with another plant.
Any identifications welcome!:)

By the way, the 55Gallon never had CO2...I simply used Excel and all the Seachem liquid ferts and did a weekly 50% water change. The new CO2 setup is just an exercise. So far, I had good luck with it before I moved...now I need a new motor.

just so you know.. its good to move some substrate and filter media etc to get a new tank cycled quickly....but adding old tank water to a new setup does nothing accept make it dirty-- bacteria live in the substrate and bio-media.. NOT in the water

That is good to know. Thankfully, it was only the water that came by scooping up a portion of the substrate. And since then, it has gone through 2 water changes. Hopefully, all will be okay.

Your 55g was awesome! Very nice arrangment of the plants. Looks like your 29g will be just as good, if not better, once everything settles in. Sorry though, I am in the dark about the names of plants still too.

After looking it over....I don't think the snowball pleco fits in very well. You might need to send him to me house. :evil_lol:
55 looks very nice btw!
Aww, the 55 was awesome! What was your reason for downsizing?
The 29 looks great too, though.

Sorry...the Snowball Pleco stays! Actually, I didn't request him. He was a traveller on the driftwood that I had in the 55 and it was in my LFS tank. He came back with the wood. I ended up paying for him after I found out he would be okay with the Royal King.
I had to downsize because I moved into a smaller place and could not fit the 55 here. But all is good. I ended up with a much better filter (rena) instead of the Magnum HOT that I did have, and it gives me a chance to prove myself. LOL!

Ooh, nice tank. It looks like you have willow leaf hygrophilia (narrow leaved stem plant), anubias nana & blyxa japonica (graasy clumps)
Your loach is a sewellia lineolata

i think youre being a bit modest. I think you should be the one telling us how to scape our tanks man. 55 looks insane! Im doing a 29 as well with just about 91 watts over it. Hoping for the best as I have some really tough plants coming (l aromatica; ammania gracilalis).
I think your plan for fish sounds good.

Thank you, everyone, for the very kind comments. I am hoping that in a few weeks time, I am able to re-create a nice little natural serene tank that I can set my tent up in front of, light a candle, and pretend I am on a riverbank. No pee-ing in the water, though!
I guess I will use this thread for my updates.

It has been a little over a month since I set up my new 29G from my old 55G. Since then, I have been through a 2 week period of treating for ICH and lost no fish in the process. After comparing the pictures, I do see some plant growth! I also mail ordered some Nerite Snails and now have little Nerite Snail eggs ALL OVER the place! So, all in all, the move to a new and smaller tank didn't seem to be such a bad experience after all. And I cycled it with some old substrate and water from the 55G because I needed to put the fish somewhere.
I am thinking about covering a portion of the driftwood with Star Moss? Would that look nice in this tank?
