I'm trading my glass 110 high with a guy tomorrow for a 125 acrylic tomorrow. The 125 is drilled with bulkheads and I need to know what else I need to build a sump besides another tank. I have a 55 to use for the sump. Do i need overflows or is that what the bulkheads are for?

Hi will not need any over flow box's for your sump I Recomend that you purchase a sump from your local pet store because they are much better mad for your tank and they match the requirements that your tank needs, You may need more than one sump depending on how many bulk holes are in the tank. You will also need a Return pump for each sump that your tank needs to push the water back in your Aquarium after it has been filtered threw the sump.

I would check out the SW forums on here for many thoughts about a sump and its plumbing. A DIY sump using a tank or building it is a much better option than buying one. Do you have a return pump yet?

I just built a sump for my 55g out of a 20g rubbermaid container.. it works great

you can use the 55g tank it will work just fine

you will need some pvc pipe to run lines into the sump.. and a return pump to pump the water back into the tank

you won't need overflows but you will need to plumbing the tank for how it is drilled.
once you get the tank take pics if you want more advice.
also I thin the DIY sections may give you better ideas for sumps. sumps in general are pretty simple.
you can build the sumps with baffles and cut glass pieces if you are using an existing tank.

Agreed def build ur own sump, you'll be surprised at the cost of a manufactured piece of acrylic cut to shape...DIY!!! Which will inturn lead to more money towards fish purchases!! Heres a link to help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxnugJGiT3o&feature=PlayList&p=85BD8D3DBDC3A19B&playnext=1&index=4 good luck and keep us posted!!

Ahhh Mr. Bishop, how are those CL's enjoying their new home? I have searched the net far and wide for ideas on sumps and I have a pretty good Idea how to put one together and I'm sure if I have any ?'s you guys will be an excelent source of knowledge. As far as the return pump goes I'm on the fence with which one and where to buy. This tank is drilled with bulkheads about 3" down from the top. I'm thinking about using both of these as overflows (or feed) tubes and having dual return spray bars on oposite sides of the tank.

Here's a thread about the restoration I started when I got the tank to my place. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184409

Just double drilled about 3" from the top with bulkheads and a pvc T glued in them.

How does a sump for fresh water differ from one for salt water?
