My DH and I have been discussing taking the 75g we are currently re-sealing and possibly splitting it up somehow. Trying to reduce the amount of energy we consume by running so many filters, bubblers, lighting etc. We figure one big tank could house the 2 - 30 gallons we currently use plus there is 15 gallons to play with. Or split it in half. I have read about people using some type of material found at the local hardware stores like HD and Lowe’s found in the lighting/electrical section (I THINK) and I have GEI silicone. I am trying to figure out if this is just a waste of time or of it is really possible. How would I filter such a tank? Hook up pvc piping & a large filter? I have 6 tanks set up now and each filter has a motor (duh) and they all have bubblers. My energy bill has gone through the ROOF!
I am thinking about 1 section holding my community fish, 1 section being a "breeding section" and the other smaller section - if we go the 30, 30, 15 route - being for fry raising or something. Or one section being shrimp only but the problem with that is interbreeding and dividers apparently don't work with shrimp they are smarter than that
I am just trying to bounce ideas around for this 75 gallon. I originally wanted it for my poly but we're considering selling him $ is so tight. So this is sort of a thread about reducing energy by splitting up a tank.
I am open to any input, ideas, thoughts, concerns, etc. Thanks for looking!
