View Full Version : Help!!! Fish identification
Iam looking for a fish I saw in a book a few years back. It looks like a neon tetra (shape), It was a dark blue and may have had a black stripe on the lower half. It only grew to 1" I think. It was a really good looking little fish. Any info would be great, thanks.

ill bet what you are looking at is a black neon....if it is black on the lower half of the neon stripe and light on the top then that is probably what it is. If it is dark on the top half as well then I am confused, lol.

does it look something like that?
no it's not a black tetra. It was a dark bluey purpulish color. forget what I said about any black. It look way sweeter than any tetra Ive seen before. The book is at my local library but am too lazy to go there since I just worked 8.5 hours today. It was an intense bright darker blue.
Did it have more finnage than say neons, or cardinals?

not even close. This thing is dark, you cant see through it. I remeber it being smaller than a neon though.

Emperor tetras are one of my favorite fish. Unfortunately they're really susceptible to stress from shipping as well. I used to have two of them, one blue eyed and the other green eyed. Once they adapt, they're fine. I kept two emperors for almost 3 years until I tore down my tank 2 years ago and gave them away.
