HI
I'm new to fish keeping:help:
and was just wondering if you can tell by these pic's if my guppies are really pregnant because they were getting fat so i looked up on the internet and it says that if they have a gravid spot that means they are pregnant?
so i went out and bought a smaller tank(10gal) so they could have peace, but its been 5 weeks now!
i've put lots of plants in there so they can hid and feel safe and raised the temp to 27.
Thanks Dan H

Welcome to AC!

Hiya
Is it normal for them to go over 5 weeks before giving birth (was told 28 days max) any ideas why they wont give birth??
They are the only 2 fish in the tank and if they're not pregnant I'd like to get another male as the male I bought when I had them has died.
Sorry I'm new to this but i would really like guppy fry
any help would be very much appreciated
Thanks Dan

Livebearers are so prolific, any female that has been in the presence of a male any time recently is probably pregnant. That said, it's my understanding that the presence of the gravid spot does not necessarily mean they're pregnant. I know they can delay dropping fry when stressed, but 5 weeks seems like an awfully long time.

She is definitely pregnant, you can see the babies eyes, thats the black spot right under were the tail begins. They will eat there fry, so i recommend getting a breeding trap, or separating them and putting lots of plants, and rocks and other hiding places. Then once they have fry, separate the fry from the mother. Good luck ! :thm:
