I just acquired a trio of Synodontis Petricola. I added them to the tank and they went into hiding right away my mbuna were a little nasty and took a bite at one but didn't seem to do any damage (boy am I glad I decided against the pleco). So I have been doing a lot of research and figuring out what these guys need as far as diet. My mbuna get veggie flakes and cichlid pellets twice a day. Now I'm certain the catfish need a more meaty diet so what would they like as well? And how to I keep my other fish from getting it since these guys are wanting to hide?

The petricola's will be fine on the same diet as mbuna. If none of the food makes it down to them just drop in a little more after the lights have been off for an hour or so.

or get a piece of tube and drop food down there so it goes to the floor.

sooner or later they will come out and fight the cichlids for the food anyway.

carfish are strong and greedy so dont panic,

post a pic of petricola's if poss

cheers

LOL, those synos will have to be greedy with cichlids.

My Syno's don't have any problem getting enough to eat. I do feed sinking and floating pellets for the Hap's and multi's, but the petricola/lucipinnis get their share of flakes and NLS pellets in spite of the juvie Victorian Hap's and a few Tang's.

Here's the only shot I have of one of them. They are still hiding most of the time but are coming out during the evening feed :)They are still really little so I hope once they get bigger they will come out more. I'm getting too more to boost the number to 5 in a couple weeks.

they are great fish you'll love him. Mine eat the same as my mbuna, pellets, algae wafers and flakes.
