Are you wanting to use it for ARLCs? That would really be your best bet, as the sand will buffer your water to make it more suitable for them than, say, SA or CA cichlids. Can you tell us about your tank setup?

I've used this sand with Tanganyikan shell dwellers and I really liked the look of it. The fish seemed to enjoy digging around in it too. If you don't care for the black and white mix, you can always just use aragonite sand (CaribSea sells that as well).

I do have a couple of comments about this sand, though. First of all, it clouds the water badly at first- worse than my experience with aragonite (as long as it is rinsed) or pool filter sand. I followed the instructions and didn't rinse it, and the cloudiness cleared up in about a day. Second, you should cover the intakes of your filters when using this sand IMO. It is much more fine than pool filter sand or aragonite, and when your fish dig in it, there will be some sand swirling around in your tank. It's best for the longevity of your filters that sand doesn't get sucked into the impellers.

I found this sand to be too powdery for my taste. I use 3M Colorquartz on my big tank.
