You can start submissions as of March 2 and they will be taken until April 6th, please put your username and contest name in the title box!

dimension: 12" x 12" at 300dpi

You can submit any file format, preferably one of the most popular ones, "Jpg, tiff, psd," but make sure your design is 12"X 12", 300 res.

The designs must be single process/single color designs.

great thing about AC is we dont force people into anything. if you dont agree to the terms of the contest its your right not to enter. i am sure 99.9% of our members will have no problem with the simple guidelines. our admin has to protect his self too.

Anyone should know how to cover their own posterior to some extent or another. You have to nowadays, at least--it is the legal revolution. I think it was done quite well--good job :thm:

what program are you using to work on it? If you're using something like photoshop, you'll be able to put the proper sizes at the beginning.

One piece of advice, it's always better to go smaller from a bigger drawing than it is to go bigger from a small drawing.

Making any drawing bigger loses quality (unless it's vector based, but that's a whole different thing in itself).

Try to work with the proper dimensions...

In photoshop, click on Image menu, then click image size....That then gives you the option to re-size an inage based on ( i think ) cm's, inches and pixels...If you struggle to find it, let me know, and i'll post a screen shot of it..

it's very easy... open photoshop, click on

- File, new,

and enter in the settings below.

This is the actual size you need.

I used a picture that I got off the internet, and can't seem to edit it. So whenever I try to change the size of the width the length changes vice versa.

I don't think so, as it looks as though the rites to reproduce are not necessarily transferred:

The licensor, usually the content creator, always retains all copyright to the content, including the ability to distribute it, or allow redistribution. Each licensing contract is different. Some may allow reselling of items that include that content, such as a t-shirt or calendar with an image, and others do not. The terms of the license should be researched, to be assured if the license includes the rights desired by the licensee.

Can someone define "single color". Because over the years, I've come to find that can mean anything a lot of different things like:

Black & White with one additional non-B/W color
Black & White with Black percentages (Greys) and one additional non-B/W color
The afore mentioned with percentages of the non-B/W color allowed
Black on White or White on Black with no percentages or non-BW colors

I hope I am not being presumptuous here on the part of the AC staff that is running this contest, but I think it means one background color, and one focal color (meaning, white on black, or black on white, or red on green, or purple on yellow). Monochromatic.

I'll let Misjinkzd or some other admin interject if I'm misinforming you.

AGH.
Probably 3 hours of work wasted.
Saved my work a lot.
But the saved (comp says they're unknown files, but I saved as .PSD) files can't be read by photoshop!
Never had that happen to me before.
Weird. Well, now that I know what I'm going to do, It shouldn't take me 1/4 of the time it did originally.

Try changing the extension (i.e. retyping it in the file name). Not always, but sometimes when I've had issues with files at work adding the extension to the file name or just retyping it if it was already present in the name, allowed me to open it either in the original program or in another similar program.

...you know, unless you've already gone and done it over again already lol.

(Oh what version of PS do you have, though? The newer versions have auto-save features, you can go into PS computer folders and re-open work that you may or may not have saved at various points. It's like a junky versions of InDesign's recovery feature for program crashes.)

Haha, renaming the file worked!
I think it was because I named the file 'AQ.2' so the period messed up the '.psd'
HAH!
I feel so much better now, I though I was gonna have to do all of that over again.

Oh, yea, the extra "." will be the death of you in file naming, the computer doesn't know which extension to read when that happens lol.

If you really wanted to use PS, you can go to the Adobe website and sign up (free account) and download trial versions of most of their programs. It may not be CS4, but it'll be Photoshop/Illustrator/etc of some version.

I received the entries! We are up to 17 entries now. I have forwarded them to Cheech to check on the formatting and sizing. :) He will let me know tomorrow if all is well then we will post the vote thread :) thanks everyone! OK well, I should start work at 8... but I'm usually in by 8:30... Then make the coffee, see if Msjinksy's online, check emails, format and upload any last minute entires, create the thread on AC, try not to mess up the polls, and done.

I have to wait for Cheech to get to work as I don't have the photoshop program that so many used to be able to access all the designs. Sorry red_wall! It will likely be up around 830 or so. Best of luck to all the candidates and thanks so much for the great participation!
