View Full Version : Prices on discus
Stendker discus has won many awards for their strains and production of discus. however, some of the discus i see in my lfs look just as good and healthy as stendkers for much cheaper. is it really worth the extra cost for stendker quality discus?

That is strictly personal preference. The gene lines in the more expensive discus are typically more pure. It all depends on what you are planning on doing. Are you a breeder looking for new blood or are you a hobbiest looking for nice looking fish. If you are the latter and you like the look of the fish, you'll probably be happy with it. Just my thoughts!
Best wishes.

I agree with avionics, if you're not going to be a breeder, then you don't have to get the most expensive fish. Just be sure what you do get is healthy. Most LFS do not have healthy discus for sale.

Debbi,
I couldn't agree more on the health issue. I recently visited a LFS inmy area that I hadn't been to before and I took a stroll through their fish room. To say the least, the conditions were gross and their discus looked terrible. I felt so bad leaving there without being able to do anything. They were asking anywahere from $35 to $100 for these fish. It was sad.
I have visited LFS that have nice discus and some even have breeding discus in their tanks with fry. They are trying to sell quarter size discus for $35 and discus anywahere from 2" to 4" for $60. It's crazy!
I would certainly stick with our sponsors here on simply for stock. They offer great prices, awesome customer service and the little extra that you have to pay for shipping is well worth the piece of mind that you are getting healthy, great looking fish.

the line disucs can be weaker then some of the others. really its up to you. i would suggest finding a local breeder for your stock. often the discus from lfs come in from hormones feed sources. though there some really nice discus out there coming in that have not been feed hormone food.
