So I have a 20 gallon tank I want to upgrad the lighting on to make a planted tank. I can either go with 65 watts of 6700k compact flourescent or 130 watts of 6700k same thing but 2 bulbs.

So the first option would be basically 3WPG.

The second option would be 6WPG.

Is there such a thing as too much light? Would 6WPG be overkill and just create a bunch of algae?

No need for the 130 watts. 65 is more than enough to grow anything you want.

Even for plants with a lot of red in them? I bought the 65w unit for my 20g and I'd love to have some reddish plants, but thought I didn't have enough light.
