Finally completed my light hanging project. This is the basic wooden enlcosure as suggested by AH Supply. It's 48" long and fits over my 55. I just used some decorative chain (which I found on clearance at Lowes for .24/ft) and carefully measured everything off to be sure it's level. It may not appear as such in the photos due to camera angle, but the bubble level doesn't lie! It rests about 2.5" over the tank and allows me to open up my versa top doors for maintenance. Just wanted to share.

looks good but why dont you lose the glass tops for a bareback tank, youll get more light in there.

That gives it a nice, finished look. Matches the wood tone real well, too.

Nice1 I would like to do something like that with mine too, but with a pulley or a counterweighted mechanism to raise it up out of the way for maintenance.

Thanks. Close matching color shade was one called "fruitwood" by minwax. I just eyeballed it and got lucky. As for removing the glass tops, it would let more light in, but it would also let the hands of my 7 year old in more easily too! Regarding maintenance, I'm going to install one small eye-hood on the back side of the light that I can anchor to the wall behind the tank. There's enough swingroom on the chain to allow for this and this way I can just "lock" the light rearward when I need full maintenance room. Overall I'm pretty happy with the setup.
