Hey. Just wanna know if anyone here uses DIY co2 and HOB style filters together successfully. I'm getting the idea from members here that my 2 HOB's are causing too much surface agitation. (I already took out my air pump/bubble wand for the same reason.) I would love to plant my tank as I just upgraded the lighting for that purpose. Do I need to switch to a canister filter?

keep the water up high to help eliminate the agitation or add deflectors on the filter out lets..it doesn't mater much the hob and cannisters will create turn over in the tank.. this is where the gas exchange occurs. by having the water splash you basically create waves etc and expose more surface for gas exchange to occur.

cannisters are good because the out flow can be directed to minimize surface aggitation.

Kind of depends on your setup. For low to moderate lighting you'll still see benefits to CO2. For high lighting you may have a hard time keeping a decent CO2 level with 2 HOBs.

I agree. I run an AC 20 on my 30 but try to keep the water level as high as possible to prevent gas off. DIY Co2 seems to be working.

thanks everyone, I've been keeping my water level up as high as possible. (a little trick I learned here on AC.) I'm going to give the DIY c02 a try, we will see how well it works.
