I have a 100g tank that was given to me - it does not have a hood, and right now, I have one 100 compact flourescent bulb over the middle section. The tank is 6 feet long and about 18" high and deep.

I am interested in making this tank a planted tank, but I would like suggestions. As I have two HOB filters, I'm thinking that doing CO2 would be out (unless it wasn't the DIY kind, which would be the only kind I would do at this point $$).

I need some suggestions on plant choices as well as lighting...

first suggestion is get a good hood, with a good light light fixture. if you go low light you wont need to worry anout co2 and you'll still have a good selection of plants to pink from. 1-2 watts per gallon you should shoot for. some good low light plants are java ferns, java moss, anubias nana, valisneria, water sprite, cryptocornes, wisteria, rotala indica, hornwort, and alot more i just cant think of!
