Anyone keep Discus with Angels. I am not looking for an opinion ( I know, Angles more agressive ect,), but looking for people's experience with them together----or not.

large tanks can support larger population mixes.

typically Discus do better in schools.. Angels are fine as loners.(tho will exhibit loose schooling behavior when in a large tank with 6+)

:iagree:

I tried the mix but the hardy ones such as golds and marbles seem more aggressive than the solid black strains.

I've got 4 Discus that have lived with 3 Angels (and a few other fish) in a 150 g tank for 6-7 months now with no problems whatsoever. No quarrels and everyone gets right in there for their share of food.

Wow can you say Big Tank never had Discus but have had a lot of angels.Full grown adult pairs pretty much take over a 30gl tall tank.depending on type not counting fin's I have seen angels the size of small dinner plates. Would be an impressive display

the black stains(especially DD black) seem a particularly weak strain.

I just bought 2 discus and put them in my 180g with 4 small Angels (2 silver, 2 gold) all are doing great, no fighting at all. The only thing you gotta do is make sure the discus are getting enough to eat, the angels are pigs.lol

Not true about the blacks and Dbl darks being weak.they are closest to wild type.
They are smaller in size as adults.but once they reach spawing age/size.I would not mix anything with them

Interesting observation. tho many breeders may disagree with you.

Historically DD Blacks(DD variants in general) if from a black strain of angel tend to have health issues.
they have gotten better when mixing the genes to produce phenotypes that exhibit the black color. but pure black angels do have health issues and early strains of the DD variants have health issues.

the wilds in general may have a difficult time adjusting to our tanks too.
Particularly true with P. Altum,

but this is a little off topic and can be suited to it's own thread.
it is safe to keep angels with discus in the proper set up.

My Angels are way more docile than my discus...my discus rarely interact with the angels, they just chase eachother around:)
