I think one of my neons has NTD but I'm having trouble finding good pictures to compare him too. I've searched google but I'm not happy with the results I'm getting back. Does anyone have any good, clear pictures of NTD?
Does the fish swim with the shoal? If so, it's probably columnaris. Most "NTD" is. Infected fish separate from the shoal and swim restlessly when the others are resting.
Test result will def help. All NTD I experienced was pale on dorsal area. Fish will usually separate itself from the rest and hang upward near surface in 45 deg angle.
My opinion is also with Columanis which can be treated well in early stage with any med with Oxytetracycline. If not possible, try Maracyn II, Minocycline. Must be done in Q/T though. No need to expose other healthy fish to med which can impose unnecssary stress. Besides, antibiotics can disturb nitrifying bacteria.
They get fed a mix of flake food, pellets, freeze dried shrimp and live black worms.
My parameters are: Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 20 (they come out of the faucet between 40 and 80ppm so it's not getting any lower)
The tank is heavily planted. He schools with the other neons most of the time but if I look at the tank and can only count 5 neons, he's always the one that's missing. None of the other fish in the tank as showing signs of sickness. I will begin treating him separately. At least its curable if its columanis, unlike NTD, which is untreatable from what I've read.
