I have talked about skin issues with one of my discus; he has one big spot like part of his skin was ripped off in a oval shape which has never healed. Now he has three more and it looks like he has fin rot. The other fish are doing ok. Time for a sick tank? Could someone reply asap? Thanks.:help:

Give him a salt (regular,I use uniodinized) bath.2 teaspoons per gallon, same temp as tank for 1/2 hour..Add airstone.Use a glass tank so you can keep on eye on.Should be standing up straight looking not stressed,if not pull him and lower to 1 teaspon per gallon.Do that daily and use whatever you were using before that was helping afterward.

If it is a single spot you might also consider taking iodide and putting some on the effected area with a q-tip

Also try to do the baths at the same time everyday,24 hours intervals.

Salt dip or bath would help initially. I suspect that it's a bacteria infection, so lower temps would help with that. You definately want to get him in a QT tank by himself, same water and temp as the main tank. Add salt gradually to 1 teaspoon per gallon, and give him a salt dip twice a day, in a concentration of 3 teaspoons per gallon. You should have him in there for no more than 30 minutes at a time, and return him to his QT tank.
If the spots look better, I'd go ahead and treat with one treatment of anti-bacterial medications, to kill off any bacteria that may be in the water or still on the fish.
In severe cases, I've heard of people tkaing the fish out and applying iodine/neosporin directly on the wound.
Good luck

Suggestion on medicine for my 10 gal QT? I have some Praz-Tastic or Kana-Pro while I am putting the discus in salt baths?

since it appears to be an external infection..try the salt bath alone

If you are comfortable handeling your disus out of the water you could swab the wound with hydrogen peroxide. Take a cotton ball and a cap full of hydrogen peroxide. Place the cotton ball in the cap full of peroxide and set aside. Remove the discus from the tank and place it on a clean, lint free towel. Take the cotton ball and dab it on the wound. It will likely fizz. Put the discus back in the tank. Do this once or twice a day. It should heal.
Best wishes!
