Are there any suitable tank mates for a breeding pair of Discus that will not harm / touch / interfere with eggs / fry?

To the best of my knowledge the breeders are always kept by themselves. Once the fry get a bit bigger, cories and BN plecos can be added to help keep the growout tank clean.
When are you getting the pair?

Won't the shrimp if small become an expensive snack to the discus?

fan shrimp = bamboo shrimp which are macros...around 4-5" if I'm not mistaken, so possibly too big for discus mouths. But I would keep breeders separate.

I keep 1 BN pleco with each of my pairs so do most breeders I know. they help keep the tank clean, they will also eat the poo as it is very high in protein. I also keep an anubis in their tank.
They never bother eggs or fry

Do you keep a night light on once you have eggs though? I found a big difference in any spawn survival where BN's were in the tank if a night light was kept on or not. If not, various species spawns would disappear in the dark of the night. That stopped with the addition of a night light close to the tank so the parent fish could see to protect the spawn.

I've never seen or heard of a fish that eats other fish's waste...have you witnessed it?
