Hi all! Another query. I've noticed that alot of times, many of my fish stay in the bottom third of the tank. Granted, I knew the bleeding hearts would stay in that area, and obviously the cories. But my rainbows seem to spend most of the time there as well. Even the danios are there occasionally, although they do spend time at the top. Could it be that I don't have enough friends for the rainbows? I have 2 right now, and I plan on adding 3 or 4 more. I was thinking that maybe the current from the filters was too much for them. I have tried moving the output of the cannister in a couple of different directions with no change in habits. The biowheel creates some, but not that of the cannister. What are your thoughts on this and how do you handle the flow directions? Thanks again.

Getting them some friends may help. It can be frustrating getting fish to venture into the upper waters.

Current does not bother fish. I run 2 (two) magnum filters on my 100gal and my fish are just fine.
Even my slower moving angels do not mind the flow.

Current should be a non-issue really unless it is blowing fish around!

Personally I would try and get appropriate numbers for your schooling fish, or posisbly try a Dither Fish

While I agree with those above me about the numbers needed for the schooling fish, you can try to build a out flow splitter to cut down on currents. Found here (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185478). I installed this to keep Mr. Betta from being pushed around in his tank. Hope it helps.

I was very concerned about current in my tank as well. I found, though, once the wee fish approached it once or twice, they used it as a game. My husband and I were roaring with laughter as my baby rasborsae discovered surfing! The fish woud swim into the stream, and with a flick of the tail would send themselves flying across the legnth of the 46 gallon tank.....over and over again.
