View Full Version : Can I let it float?

I just got done revamping my tank after returning from a semester in france. It looks naked, but at long last the algae mass is gone and I can see my fish!!!

But, as always, some of the plants just don't want to stay rooted. A giant hygro, some sags and cryps. Can I just let them float until I get the driftwood I want to add to the tank and move everything around? I'm tired of putting them back in again and again when I plan on adding some wood and moving everything around within the month anyways.

Or will floating make them entirely unhappy?

ps.. I have a feeling some of them are getting disturbed by the new loaches cuz they're right in the way for playing in the filter outlet's stream. And the others are behind the caves and uber hard to get into the dirt w/o moving the caves.

you should be fine letting them float but thay will probably grow roots all along them.

Allowing them to float will grow unsightly roots everywhere, and also twist the stem plants in weird directions.

the green hygro grows roots everywhere anyways, I should prolly start using root tabs, I spose. :(
I suppose I'll keep replanting them. Don't want twisted plants.

When plants float for a while and get twisted up, they straighten out again a within a few days after you plant them. They're just doing that to stay facing the light source. For a month like this, the sag will be okay.. but crypts and hygros don't last long floating.

I agree with the above. Temporary, and the plants will recover. Longer than a few weeks and they might not survive.
