I have a trio of otocinclus in a tank with Julii corys. The otos have started to take on the eating habits of the corys. Whatever food the corys are scurrying after (flake/pellets/whatever) the Otos swarm all over it and munch right along side of the corys. I never knew that Otos liked flake food!
Does anyone else have odd otos?
My otos think they are corys too. They eat EVERYTHING! They all eat zuchinni together. The funniest thing my otos do is clean the snails. They will group up and swarm all over it cleaning the algae (I guess) off it's shell.
If you only have one you need to get at the very least, one more. They get lonely and pine away. Are you blanching the veggies? I put some water in the microwave and bring it to a boil. Then I take it out and put the veggies in the hot water for a minute or two and then take it out and run it under cold water to stop the cooking process. When it is cold I just put it in the tank on a veggie clip. If your oto is shy you might want to do this in the evening and leave the veggie overnight. Try it and see. Is his tummy round? A round tummy is the sign of a happy oto.
I can't find him right now. I'm planning on going to the fish store later today and was gonna pick up 2 more otos. also need to grab some algae wafers.
I have 4 otos in my 20g and i never see them
They are always hidding behind the filter or the heater
they never eat the flake food either
But they do keep the tank very clean, i haven't seen any alge since i got them
My two little guys swim and dart all over my 10 gallon. The go around the tank together, so I do agree yours would be very happy to have some more otto friends.
Mine hang out together on a leaf of a short sword plant I have in the tank.
I did float some slightly nuked zuchinni a time or two and saw one clinging upside down on it munching.
