i
from my experiance, java moss takes some time to get itself going. it might take a while but once it takes off it grows pretty fast. i bought a log with java moss on it about 8 months ago, every piece of moss on that log died except for one verry tiny piece that i put on a piece of driftwood, now i got java moss covering the bottom of my tank and every where else. just give it some time

As far as my experience goes the stuff is virtually indestructible! I have it in unheated tanks, tropical, in the paludarium -above water & below, in the discus tank.
It grows steadily just about anywhere.
Hmm, maybe I'll try to grow some in the fridge just to see...

i haven't had much luck with it in discus tanks. Plus, it catches too much debris from the frequent feedings.

Grows fine in just about anything!! I have it in my discus tank but it does collect lots of crap and food.
