My mom has a wall aquarium in which she keeps a black neon, a guppy and a couple of plecos. Lately we have discovered baby Plecos in her tank.

I have just started a 46 gallon community tank, and mom thought it would be a nice gesture to "gift" me with some baby Plecos. She scooped out 3 babies into the requisite plastic bag, and upon inspection against the light I saw what I thought might be threads of fish poo. Imagine my surprise when these threads started moving on their own! The threads are colorless, and one was about an inch long. I would never have seen them if I had not held the bag of fishies against the light through a window. They squiggle about, almost like moqito larvae.

I felt that I had to refuse the gift of Plecos as I was unsure about the "threads".

What do you think I was looking at? Mom is very concerned too.

Nematode? Without a photo, it's hard to know. Here's a link to a thread (with photo) about a thingie I found in my tank. Consensus seemed to be nematode and that they're harmless in and of themselves, but indicate an overfed tank.

Thanks for the feed-back. I'll share it with Mom. I am still going to refuse the gift until I find out more.

I have that too in my 75 Gallon aquarium. I guess I'll have to clean my gravel so they'll go away.
