I found this driftwood yesterday boating on the river. Can I use it? And what do I need to do to treat it, then get it to sink?

That's a nice piece. I soak mine in a rain barrel for a week or so.
As to being livestock safe. Do you have a small tank that you could
put it in first? I have a tank with 2 Buenos Aires Tetras that I use
for testing my DW. It's easy to replace the tetras. But I haven't found any
bad DW yet.

Driftwood sinks on its own. It can take anywhere from an hour to a week to get a piece waterlogged enough to sink. Mine sank almost immediately.. I guess I got lucky.

Nice wood, I would boil it to release some of the tanins and kill the bacteria.

you can also bleach the shyt out of it as well, just make sure you dechlorinate it after.

Does anyone realize how long it would take to fill a tub with boiling water?
I'm sure that's not a option.

Do you have a pot about 1 foot deep? You can boil it, keep flipping it over and over. The steam and hot water (running down over the exposed side from what was just boiled) will take care of the middle.

Wasn't suggesting to fill the tub with boiling water, just pouring the boiling water (from a pot) onto the wood while it is in the tub. This is how I cure all of my large driftwood

turkey fryer lol, but really a good scubbing with the hottest water you can handle and it''ll be fine some wood just wont sink for months but you can get a slate tile and silicone it down or drill a cple holes in the slate and use stainless steel screws to attach it
