Hi this is the first time i have never written on a thread, on the internet so apologizes now, LOL

i am new to this, but am lovin' it, have a small tank 50ltrs jewel type, have sorted out some planting together with some rocks from my local beach, with i boiled and stuff to make safe for my tropical fishies! i have two very small bristle nose cats, 5 med peppered cats, and 5 very hardy noens. have done cycle thing and i have stopped losing noens! have lost 4 to date but no deaths for a week or so now, water readings have also settled down now.
amm is zero, nitrite 5, nitrate 10 ph 7.6. (using APi kit)

Just wondering though, cos tank is a new setup there is no alge for my baby bristles? tried waffers, but peppers kepping scoffing them too! any ideas!

Ant comments welcome!

Many thanks!

Welcome to AC!

Hi Lou, you will probably have better luck starting a new thread in general freshwater forum. I haven't kept bristlenose but I think you could try using a veggie clip and putting in cucumber, zuchini, romaine lettuce, carrot, just make sure to blanch them first. Also make sure to have some driftwood for them.

Hi Lou. Very glad you joined us.

:welcome:

50 liters is about 13 gallons. That's a little small for the fish. You are still also showing high on nitrites, so the cycle may not be finished yet. Keep watching this and do water changes to bring down the nitrite level. A week with no more dead fish is an improvement, but this is very fragile still. Any setback will disturb the bacteria established there and you could see a spike again in ammonia or nitrites.

Most of those fish like eating algae, which you don't have yet because this is quite new still. If they won't eat algae wafers, there are other foods you can offer them. See if that helps. Try blanched collard greens, broccoli, spinach leaves, romaine lettuce, peas (with skin removed), zucchini, and cucumber.. along with other foods, pellets, bloodworms, etc.

Have fun with your fish and enjoy the site.

many thanks for your advise! will watch my readings! only have a small tank because I am new and am "learning the trade" so to speak. many thanks for your time!

how often can i do these 25% WC? will it stress my fish? can i use tap water treated with nutrafin cycle? I am considering getting a bigger tank, what would you suggest would be a "good" size to start maturing! sorry about all these questions! any answers will be whole heartedly appreciated.
