so im on a hunt for the last fish i plan to add to my 55. id like it to be either a geophagus megasema or gymnogeophagus balzanii. anyone got a line on a place i could affordably (sub 50$ with shipping) find one of these pretty earth eaters? my jurupari needs another fish to help carry around decorations.

jeff rapps has some big ones for $75 jeff rapps (http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/stock.html)

you could email him and find out if he's getting some smaller and cheaper soon.

i just picked up a $10 red hump male who was the dominant fish in his tank at the lfs. much more attractive than the female i brought home a couple months ago. but she's alot bigger right now.
will try to get pics.

hes a little beat up from travel and sharing a 10g with 20 others at the lfs. but i expect his colors will get better.

this is my female[?] red hump. not as colorful.

that male will get very nice indeed! his hump is very prominent and will look nice when he gets to mating colors. your female looks almost exactly like my young jurupari. very nice fish. i wetn and looked at rapps site and sales list. lots of pretty fish there. the balzani is a bit over my budget but the bahai red and tapajos are very nice as are the gymnogeophagus labiatus and gymnogenys. seems rapp takes a minimum of 50$ for fish order and im not sure if he lumps in the shipping at the 50$ minimum. i may go to the LFS and see if they wanna do a joint order from him so i can get a single fish of either the bahai red, labiatus or gymnogenys. ****, thers so many choices.

anyone seen a breeder/dealer with the megasema?

where are you located? I place an order with Jeff pretty much monthly. Myself and a few other from this site and the AquaMojo forums go in on them together to cut the costs.

yeah ill prolly do that. i went to the LFS today and asked if i could do a special order for a fish and they told me as long as it was available and i would have to pay up front and the fish was mine wether it arrived dead or alive. that seemed a bit odd to me as from looking on the net it seems that most dealers have some sort of doa policy.

so anyone wanna get some fish!

anyone know the temperament and max size of the labiatus?
