Hello everyone,

I am going to be setting up my planted aquarium this week and I was wondering what your opinions are of this layout. I have a 29 gallon with 2wpg of light.

rock/cave ambulia anacharis anacharis
nubias nana
wendtii green watersprite
microsword x2 wendtii red x23d model here (ignore the size of the rock and driftwood, they are just placemarkers). The 3d is also missing the watersprite.

Do I have the placement correct in regards to the final height of each plant, etc? Any suggestions on what to move where?

Thanks!

That should work out great. What kind of rock cave is it going to be? What kind of background, substrate, and rocks are you working with?

Thanks for the feedback!

I am using pool filter sand as the substrate. I will be using Seachem Flourish Tablets for the roots and Excel (or similar) in the water.
The only background I have right now came with the tank (used) and is a dark blue metallic sheet. It actually looks pretty nice but I am waiting to see what it looks like with plants/fish.

My fish plan is 5-6 Kuhli Loaches, a couple of otto cats, my daughter wants a molly, a dwarf gourami, and a school of tetras/guppys/something similar.

I actually don't know what I want to do for rocks/driftwood. I can't make up my mind. If you go to ebay and search for "aquarium cave" there is a guy who's ads say "got rocks?" They look nice and he claims they are freshwater safe. I like those and $20 isn't bad.
My LFS has some sandstone-type rocks (look like the grand canyon) that are pretty but very rough. Do you think they would hurt fish? They are like sand paper and I'm afraid some of the fish might cut themselves.

Kendrid,

I like your plans. I'm setting up a 30 and I have a similar set of plants I'm looking at. Make sure you post some pictures once you get going!

My experience with watersprite is it will grow one of 2 ways it will either get very tall and bushy with enough lighting or it will creep along the gravel in either case requires maintenance, plus it's a fast grower. Cyrpts will creep all over the tank as well. The plant selection is fine but be prepared and ready to prune.

Good Luck!
