Just wondering if theres any hunters, shooters, or trappers here. I've been hunting since I was around 10 or 12. I shoot trap and have won twice at the Iowa State Trapshoot, I also shoot NRA Highpower and reload my own ammo. Trapped for a couple years in high school but don't have the time anymore. Any body else?

I'm moving back to Corwith, IA out on the farm, it's a town of about 300-350 in north central IA. It's about 45 miles west Mason City, and about 25 miles south east of Algona.

Yea I moved out here to Thornton, CO it's northeast of Denver, to look for law enforcement jobs but haven't had any luck. I'm tired of the city life, but I like goin to the mountains whenever I want, and I miss the farm life so I'm moving back to the farm.

i used to live in the small town...1 store/gas station town 2 stop sign no stop light town. but i wanted action...well i got it....i moved into a apartment...where people got beat up outside....now i live in upper part of town...taxes are much higher and camaras everywhere...but more peaceful and better for the kids....the only thing i miss is the stray animals...i liked to feed them and sit quietly on the back porch and watch the raccoons and opossums come on the back porch and eat the leftovers we left out for the cats....ahhhhh the young life...now im lucky if i see a stray ant...

We got our own herd of farm cats goin lol, hardly ever see a mouse on the farm though. I even miss the smell of cattle and milking them lol.

03-17-2009, 4:27 AM
i bet, things like that can really take ya back right? we used to have about 125336587952145635 cats running around....every size and color...and when you thought there were enough...one got pregnant or two more three at once...then there were 20 more!

we are really thinking about getting a kitten...since i talk about them all the time...you never seen someone love the strays so much....

i like the city though....but im not sure it will last long...been here a couple years now and the hustle is getting old....i mean there are no stop signs....everything is lights....and i ALWAYS get red lights...takes 20 minutes to go 3 blocks! miss being able to get to another town to shop in 5...im a speeder on those back roads....oops should i of said that...? :) hope u dot get a job in my town!

I hunt a little but haven't had time to go out in the last 2 years. But I do a LOT of target shooting at the range.

We got our own range at the farm, we can even go out to 600 yards or more.

Well before my parents sold their farm a few months ago I had a private range. Now I have to use the one at the State Game Lands and it only goes to 100 yards. :(

I save all my good brass. I use to shoot sporting clays all the time to the point where I was reloading over a 1,000 shells a year.

I save and reload about 4-5 handgun calibers, rifle we reload about 4-5 calibers. Back when I was shooting alot of trap I would go through atleast 2-3 thousand a year all reloads.

I used to hunt and shoot alot when I was KID , I'm going on 54 now and never get to do the fun things anymore. We used to hunt dove here where I live now within a few miles. That was back in the 60's , you can forget about that now HA :)
We also had a 500 acre cattle ranch in the middle of NOWHERE Florida back when I was 18-21 . I wanted the city back then and now I want the country :(
Loved duck hunting in the Glades but dove was my favorite.
Someone broke into my old apt and stole my 22 rifle and 30.06. All I have now is a hand me down Police special 22 wrf pistol and a 20 ga pump shotgun.
I 've done a little clay bird shooting , that's fun !!!!!!!!

I need to get out and fire off a few rounds somewhere :)

My dad's side of the family is full of hunters and fishers. Dad used to trap quite a bit, but he doesn't do much with it anymore. He used to own a bait shop with his brother in Waterloo, IA. These days, he's an ice fishing NUT. My parents used to raise Walker coonhounds. I did a lot of fishing and quite a bit of hunting when I was a little younger, but it never really interested me. I do have a really pretty Ruger .22 though. :) I'm from Lime Springs, IA... About 5 miles from the MN border. I go to school at Luther College in Decorah, IA right now but am transferring to UNI in Cedar Falls in the fall. Don't know if you know any of those places, but possibly!

I have a Rock River Arms AR-15 National Match and my dad has a Bushmaster AR-15. I think alot of people are getting them now cuz of our new President Osama and they are afraid he'll ban them along with high-cap magazines and such. AR-15's, M14s and any other semi-auto rifle has gone up in price alot this year alone cuz of him. He's says there assualt rifles but they aren't in order for it to be an assualt rifle it has to fire full auto which the don't.

The whole reason why I got back into fish keeping is because it is to expensive to shoot (almost) Sadly my AR is an expensive paper weight. My Mossy and HI-P carbine are less expensive paper weights.

fordsrule_68
03-17-2009, 8:25 PM
Yea it is expensive my AR cost me $950 it was suppose to be $1200 but I was a junior shooter at the time I bought it so I got a discount. My trap gun which is a Browning Ultra Sporter suppose to be a sporting clays gun but I like it for trap cost me $1300.

I don't hunt but would love to have someone thin the deer herd in my back yard. I'm unfortunately too close to houses to have rifle hunting here. We did have a friend take out 4 deer with a bow this season. Venison is yummy!

My husband has lots of guns but he doesn't have any time to shoot them these days.

i agree. my dad said that DPMS (big AR15 producer) has a waiting list and it is something like 10,000 names long!!!!! (im just going on the low side of what i think it is. it could be more like 20,000)

Awesome AR's. I can't do nothing like that to mine cuz mines strictly for long range shooting, but I did just buy a Streamlight TLR-1 for my Springfield XD45 Tactical.

^ I'm saving up for a 24" Heavy Barrel Flat Top Upper for long range shooting. I do shoot that A2 at 300 yards and it's very accurate.

I shoot mine at 200 to 600 yards with iron sights. And 200 yards you have to stand. My AR just hangs there like a rock I added weight to it so it weighs atleast 10lbs. lol

Nice. I also have a Ruger #1 Heavy Barrel .300 WinMag with a Redfield 4-12x scope on it. It's fun to shoot and has quite a good kick to it.

Wow, small world! My pops gave me this rifle last year. It has a custom wooden stock on it that he made 30+ years ago. And all I've shot out of it so far are custom loades he made. :D

I Made my own muzzle loader kinda. When I was like 15 my dad bought me a Thompson Center Hawken Kit in .50 Cal. I had to heat the barrel and brown it and sand the wood and finish it and put everything together. Pretty need experience doin that. We also have a Winchester model 94 in 30-30.
