Yep it's effecting frog species world wide unfortunately.
On a side note, they have a few of "Mountain Chickens" for sale at a pet store near me. I can't believe they're still legal to sell. I wish someone with experience would buy them and breed them.
lets talk about Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis(Chytrid Fungus) and its effects on the populations of Amphibians.
There was a program with in the last year with Jeff Corwin talking about this plague that has been hitting Frogs. This is not just isolated to wild populations but to captive populations as well. It has decimated collections in Europe, Japan, Australia and the US. This is actually scary folks if this continues we will loose most of our Amphibians. This is attacking not just frogs but salamanders as well.
What happens is this fungus grows in the skin and starts to cause problems in the frog and stresses it out.
The Corwin program was fantastic and I wish I had a copy of it. They did point out that a few species of Frogs are immune to this fungus. They are not sure why yet but trying are trying to figure it out and see if they can find a cure for this.
But wouldnt it be sad if we lost all of our Amphibians due to Chytrid, loss of habitat or "Global Warming"?
for more reading on Chytrid here are some articles.
