Today at my LFS a saw bamboo for sale as a aquatic plant will this really grow under water or is it just the store trying to fool people. to be honest if i hadn't read some of the posts on this site i wouldn't have thought twice about buying it

It growws well in water, but not completely submerged.

I actually asked when I first saw it at Petco, and the employee basically said, yeah, it's going to rot if you keep it submerged (which is how they were selling it). *rolls eyes*

Its not really bamboo, bamboo is a large grass, the stuff you seen in the store is called dracaena.
