I've only had the Angel for a few weeks, but I'm wondering if there is any way to guess at his age based on size. His body length is currently about 2.5 inches or so. It's not a big deal if I can't figure it out, but I was curious.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'd take a stabe and say someplace around 90 days old based on stated size

The body size depends on how you take care of your fish. How big was it when you bought it? How long had it been in the shop? Does the shop take good care of their stocks?

I believe it had only been in the store a couple of weeks. Yes, they generally do take good care of their stock. If he has grown at all since I've had him it hasn't been enough to be very noticeable.

And you have it for a "few" weeks? How many weeks would that be? From your descriptions, I can guess 5-6 months but it's only a guess. It's hard to say the exact age.

Just looked at my calendar to check and I've had him for two and a half weeks. Thanks for all the help.

honestly ,
it is almost impossible to determine the age based on size.

a microscopic exam of the scales may lend more information(or some other part of the fish)

genetics and how the fish was kept have more to do with size.

since , you have no way of determining that.. you can only best guess the age.

I knew an angel breeder who kept her fish angels in small tanks.

i was purchasing some of her display tanks and she showed me her prized breeders.

my 6 month old babies were twice the size of her 2 yr old breeders.
