Gridiron? Is that football (american version)? Nah, not into that ;)

Coler

gridiron is the comparison. The sport however is rugby.

I love rugby, and play it too. It is so much more interesting than football (soccer, not American football)

Go Ireland!

Wish I could watch it more, afew of the Irish bars here have the games on but they are on way to early for me to be at a bar.

Was in Ireland Fall of 07 during the finals, bars and crowds were insane. My family was kinda peeved that when we went to the local pubs for diner they were packed and the last table left was the one directly under the TV (cornor both at Brazin' Head for one example). But I watched a few matches at the Jury's Inn in Galway and got into it, brought a Ireland Rugby jersey back with me.

Well done, Coler. Poor old Martin and Steve Borthwick. I get Jones's column emailed weekly, and man has he been down on those guys. Great to see Brian do well. Loved around the world.
Too bad there's all this N-S hemisphere antagonism about the ELVs. Some good humoured bantor doesn't hurt though, I'm sure you'll agree.......stuff like WC QF 1991 Lansdowne Rd.......couldn't spare a copy, could you, mate?
Wells done to your boys, Coler. Cheers,
Greg

Canada has a good team, especially considering the logistics of talent development in such a large landmass. We have the same problem here, although not as large an area, but with a population of only 18 million and four football codes, rugby struggles.
I can't remember who the opposition was, but I recall Canada putting on a brawl which gained them serious attention.

WC QF 1991 - was at it - hard loss to a great side. Thanks for the good wishes its been a long time coming :)

See your lock O'Connell having a dig at Wales' Kiwi coach, Warren Gatland about having a massive ego. Gatland'll be part of the Lions coaching party and O'Connell should be one of the selection certainties IMO, so there'll undoubtedly be the handshake for the media before the tour, irrespective of how they actually feel about each other.
It's going to be a fantastic series.

Coler
03-25-2009, 10:48 AM
Haha yeah - Gatland came out last week and said a) the welsh players dislike the irish and b) the irish are chokers...interesting mind games...backfired.

murraycod
03-26-2009, 7:30 AM
Yep. I often wonder what the players feel about the managers going on with all this "ever-so-clever" psychobabble. I'm sure some of the guys must feel like telling the coach to pull his head in at times.

Just for cjtabares' interest, Portugal play in both the qualifiers for the world cup, which is played every four years, and a second tier European competition. Portugal played the rough, tough team from Romania in Bucharest last weekend and, after trailing, won in a nail biting finish 22-21. I'm proud to say they are coached by an Australian, Tim Lane.

WHAT!!?!? TOTAL PASS!!! Our girl's hockey teams could probably beat most of the rugby players...

;)

Coler
03-26-2009, 9:57 AM
Partial pass moving to a fail. Rugby Men wouldn't hit women. Even if they looked like big beardy grizzly yokes that fell out of the ugly tree and bounced off every branch on the way down.

Yes well, speaking of the Six Nations, as we almost are.....What would you think Coler, of Italy being dropped from the tournament? They're currently twelfth on IRB standings, only just ahead of Georgia and Russia who played on the weekend in Ukraine.
Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, France and.......Georgia. Sounds weird, but why not.
It'd be great to see Euope's second tier, Asia, Oceania, N & S America and Africa get a boost. There must be some great rugby players out there. Some of the young ploynesian guys are amazing, as evidenced by Fiji in the 7's.
Although I live in Victoria, we don't have a strong rugby culture down here. It's all AFL, which is our Gaelic Football. Anyway, I still follow the New South Wales Waratahs since I'm a Sydney boy. You might know of our winger, Lote Tuqiri, who's 105kg. Lote's family came from Fiji and his young cousin is also under contract to the Waratahs and is 196cm and 126kg, plays wing and is only 19.
