Just curious what everybody is feeding their growing discus. My lfs had mine on discus flakes and frozen bloodworms. I have had them for about 2 weeks now and they will only peck at the flakes, but devour bloodworms as if they have never eaten before. I want to fatten them up, so I bought some beefheart today, and they will have nothing to do with it. I just ordered some hikari Bio gold discus pellets, hope they will eat them when they get here. What else should i try....they cant just live on bloodworms.
You might want to keep feeding them what they want and try other things that were live at one time, IE Shrimp, bloodworms, other things that are either freeze dried or frozen.

Hands down frozen bloodworms is at the top of the list of favorites. I don't feed beefheart, but do feed plenty of FBW's every day. They also get Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Flakes and New Life Spectrum discus pellets every day. I add live white worms a couple of times a week as a substitute for the FBW. I use Hikari FBW which are vitamin fortified, and the flakes and pellets are all fortified as well. They will grow out fine on this menu. Just as important as the type of diet is the frequency of feeding young discus... several feedings a day is necessary for proper growth while they are growing.

really good growth is at least 5-6 feedings a day, mix up the food you offer they will eat it off the bottom of the tank when your not looking. Vac and change water as often as you can. Some growers change 100% of their water twice a day, I dont that much but mine are not what they could be if I could do that much work.
I use tetra tropical granules (color bits), ocean nutrition prime reef, and various frozen shrimp with bloodworms in it.

hands down FBW is their favorite. if you want them to take flake thaw the bloodworms and add flake to the mix.
I do feed mine beef heart(rarely) but I prefer to make my own and control fat(trim it all off)
it is high in protein so I use it only a few times a month.
I find mine like the NLS discus pellets as do my angels and rams.
Kens food for flake and mine like the pellets from there too.

Did you make a beefheart mix or just tried to get them to eat it flat out?

I have to say mine will eat anything I throw in the tank. I am now digging up earthworms for them and they shred'em to pieces.
Mine took flake foods right away, wouldn't touch beef heart at all and still wont no matter the mix. Mine came from Hans through POPs and they would eat anything from the start so guess it depends on the fish.

So i picked up some mysis shrimp....but they dont care much for it....so the angels, rams and tetras eat it. I have the hikari bio gold discus pellets on order, so hopefully they will like them. They pick at flake food.....but i can tell they are waiting for their FBW. lol
