I dropped some cherry shrimp into a tank containing Julii Cory Cats (yes I'm sure), Kuhli loaches, and Black Neon Tetras. I have since been unable to locate the shrimp. Is it possible one of these species killed my shrimp? The LFS assured me this wouldn't happen, so I'm a bit peeved.:perv:

Depends on how big your cherries were. If they were adult sized, then it's unlikely for the fish to have killed them.

when i first got my red cherry shrimp, i didn't see them for at least a month, and just when i'd left em for dead, i took out the fantail (i know i know, but we all make mistakes) and they all resurfaced, took to the plants, and started makin' babies. so don't give up yet.

Yep, my cherries always seemed to disappear if I had fish in there. I'm pretty sure I also had some loss to stress and fish eating the baby shrimp. But, once I had nothing but shrimp and snails, it was like an explosion! I suddenly had shrimp on every piece of decor, in every plant, and swimming about the tank. Amazing. Although, the last time I had fish in there it was 10 juvie diamond tetras and 5 juvie kribs. Since I took them out, I have not had as many cherries as before. It has now been about 2.5 months since then and I probably only have about 50% of the previous population. I'm hoping that planting the tank a little more will help encourage breeding.

Thanks for the input, so ideally the only way to have your shrimp out and about is to have an invert only tank? I'm thinking of setting up another heavily planted tank, but was thinking of limiting the fish presence to just cories, or maybe some danio morph. Would I be able to keep the shrimp out and about in such a setup, or does it basically require ONLY inverts?
