As of right now i am in the cycling phase with a 40 gallon (breeder size) tank. I have 9 saltwater mollies aiding me in the process. I'm just looking for some advice or what others have done in a similar tank as far as fish stocking. All of the mollies are going back once the cycling is done btw. As far as i know i think i want to do 2 clowns i haven't decided which kind, a six-line wrasse, a flame angel, and others. What do you all think? I would greatly appreciate a full stocking list from a bunch of you so i can get some good ideas.

Aside from bioload issues, you'll want be careful with aggression issues. Six lines can be extremely aggressive and will definitely limit you on what other fish you can keep with it. Also, if you're looking to have corals in the future you'll want to think hard about the flame angel (and most if not all dwarf angels) as they're prone to nipping and picking at corals.

My girlfriend had a six line and two clowns in her 10 gallon with no probleMs at all. And I've heard that flames will tend to be less agressive towards corals than others.

I wouldn't be worried about the clowns - they can definitely take care of themselves on the aggression scale. They are damsels after all! I just meant that with a six line you'll have to be a bit more careful about putting in more peaceful fish like gobies or firefish. The six line can easily terrorize docile fish like that. We were looking at one this past weekend, knowing that they can be aggressive, and learned from our LFS that they're the single most returned fish because of their aggression issues.

As far as the flame angel goes, from what I understand it's up to the individual fish. Just from posts on this forum I know that there are some who never touch corals to some who start sampling them the moment they're introduced to some who change overnight after years of not touching them. I have heard that pygmy angels (like the cherub or the flameback) are a safer bet than most of the other dwarfs and that lemon peels are more of a risk but again, it's up to the individual. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Have fun with the stocking!

i guess i am asking for what other people think would be a good list. I know I want 2 clowns and some form of dwarf angel. Beyond that I am open to whatever. What do you all think? I wanna hear what you would have if you had a 40 gallon tank at your disposal.
