I found something interesting while cleaning my tank

My amano shrimp! I thought the Macro sp I introduced to my tank had wiped them out. Well yesterday my DH asked me if bamboo shrimp could have babies, because he was looking at 2 that look a lot like it. I am so stoked :headbang2:now if I could only get a decent picture of them. They are apparently better at hiding then I had originally thought.

This gives me hope. Maybe mine are still in my tank too after using heat/salt for ICH a couple of weeks ago.

They are SUPER good at hiding. i added 20 or so to my 75 and rarely seemore than one at a time.

Don't give up hope. These guys lived through Macro shrimp which wiped out my whole ghost shrimp population. They don't seem to mind aquarium salt, melafix and even amquel. They even made it through my DH bulldozing through the tank stirring up the gravel, sand, etc. They've been in the tank since Jan and I only saw them twice since adding them, once I saw once come out and snatch some flakes, and the second time was yesterday after a major tank cleaning. They aren't pretty blue anymore like when I got them, they are clear and remind me of wild neo sp because they are speckled with browns. At least they are alive!! But they are back to hiding since I saw them yesterday. I heard if you keep them in groups you'll see them more often, wow 20 and they are still hiding! :eek3: I guess 75 gallons is a lot of room to roam and hide and graze. I bet you're shrimp are spoiled msjinkzd ;)

Which species of Macrobrachium shrimp do you have? I've been able to keep several different species of dwarf and filter feeding shrimp with mine for years. The only aggression I've noted is from one alpha male towards another who wants to be top dog. I even have one tank with M. dayanum, M. scabriculum, and M. lanchesteri, and M. kulsiense.

I keep the populations of each species to ~5 each, since it's a 55L tank. The main reason for starting it, was I wanted to know if any could interbreed. After a few months with one male and females from the other species, no eggs were fertilized. I repeated this with the all others. The M. kulsiense and M. scabriculum were no big surprise, since they're very different from the M dayanum (also considered assamenses) and lanchesteri. So once I had the comunity going, I just thought it was nice, and decided to let them live in their utopian crusecian society.

I THINK they are M. lanchesteri but have only been able to compare photos.
