Hi Friends !

HAPPY NEWS !!! :)

One of my Brichardi Pair have finally spawned and have 8 Babies now !!! They are in a species tank (4 Feet, 250 Liters, Heavy Rock Formations and Anubias Planted) with 4 other Brichardi Adult Pairs (I think the other pairs are spawning too but they have their own caves and crevices and I cant see more babies)

Just wanted to know what and when to feed to these 8 Babies. They are free swimming now - I mean they still rest on the substrate and rocks but they are able to swim to about 2" above the substrate - so Can I start feeding them now ?

If yes, then what do I feed them ? I dont have any fry food for them now. I have ordered Hikari First Bites and Hikari Tropical flakes for them but it will take about 3 days for the food to arrive. Today I crushed some Tetra Bits and Hikari Cichlid Gold Sinking food to powder and soaked it in some water before spot feeding them but I'm not sure if they're able to eat it. I even mixed some boiled egg yolk in a cup of water and spot feed them but again I'm not sure if they're eating (as they're very tiny)

Kindly guide me if I can continue to feed these (the egg yolk and Crushed Hikari pellets) to them and how frequently do I feed them ?

Please guide as I'm really excited, as I've waited so long for them to breed and I want to give the babies a great start and make them survive. Kindly guide me Friends...

Thanks a lot !
Regards and Care
Kush

I don't feed my fry or juvies anything different than what i feed to the whole tank but what i do is grind some flakes between my thumb and finger so that i create a tiny flake almost consistent to powder and the fry seem to eat that and do fine for me..

I wouldn't go over board on fish foods the normal fare is very well consistent for adequate growth but if you want to i don't see any harm.. enjoy your newest additions my friend..

You are doing it right, Kush! Crushed flakes as Pittbull says or crushed pellets and crushed granules as you say; all are good fry food as very small particles.

Hi Friends !

Thanks a lot for guiding me. I guess I'll do that then ! Thanks again - I'm so excited and happy :)

Friends, just wanted to ask if I can directly feed them pure Spirulina Powder ? Will they eat it ? Is it a good food for them ?

Kindly advice...

IMO, you can feed them pure Spirulina Powder, but I would do it for one or two days a week only; to give them the chance to eat other kind of proteins and a varied diet. Remember to feed them 2 times each day and to remove the uneaten food, if any.
Good luck with your babies!

If you can gently pour the flakes/pellets/FD worms out on the piece of paper, you will be able to find enough powders on the bootom of container which will last you for a long time. Make sure to keep up with pwc when feeding powders. No need for any specialized food until bit bigger.

what?!?!?! only 8 fry? i always thought that they had massive spawns of fry. i guess thats ok for first spawn. in a few months your gonna have more fry than you can deal with. brichardis are awsome though. its a shame they are a to aggressive collony.
