I need help i have a bearded dragon and i don't know why but he doesn't eat the stuff thats required for him. he eats crickets like a crazy person, but i want him to be healthy. so what is some good stuff for him to eat that he would like. also what is a good terrarium size for him. right now i have him in a 40 gal tall(i don't think he likes it).he is about a year and 2 months old. im not sure the real size.

For starters I would say a larger enclosure is probably a good idea. I wouldn't keep a BD in anything smaller than a 75 gallon as an adult.

Crickets are fine for your dragon to eat. But you have to make sure that you gutload and dust them first. Have you tired feeding veggies at all? Dark leafy greens are good to add to the diet as well as grated squash, zucchini and carrots.

I'm sorry, I really don't know anything about bearded dragons, except that they look awesome! Can you put up a pic of him in his terrarium? That might help people answer your questions. Also, from what I understand, pretty much all they eat in the wild is various insects; while it would be good for it to eat other stuff once in a while, it does get vegetable matter from the insect's stomach. Have you tried spinach, lettace(sp?), or other leafy greens? Many lizards like them. If you can't get him to eat anything but crickets, than make sure that you feed your crickets well while you have them.

dont forget to get some new lights for him G. cuz he looks cold. and id say hes between 18 and 24 inches. when you get the chance to pick him up use a tape measure on him. and yeah he needs a new enclosure definatly. he cant stretch out in there. than you can use the 40tall for your africans and put some ikolas in the tank your keeping the africans in.

thanks well i sadly have like no money to by a 75 gal right now. do u know of any good websites that have cheap but reliable 75 gals? i havent tried dusting them but ill give it a try. ive tried like every vegie in the book. i also tried apples and he kinda likes that.

Definitely buy some reptile vitamins/calcium to dust the crickets with. Fruit is ok for a treat but veggies are much healthier and natural for them.

You don't have to buy an aquarium. To be honest, fish tanks were made for....well.....fish. They do have reptile tanks out there but they can be pricey. I don't know how handy you are but you could build a custom cage which is often much cheaper than buying one.

No, chicken wire is for chickens. ;)

You need smaller gauged wire like 1/4". Or you could do 3 wood sides and a plexiglass front.

I agree with this.

How old is your dragon? This is a major factor on food. Young ones prefer eating crickets as they get older they switch to their greens.

Also what are your temps like? What is your setup? How new is your UV bulb?

But I agree, that tank you have your lizard in is Terrible. Its better to have longer and wider than taller. The basking lamp isnt going to really heat this guy at all, that is if you have a basking lamp.

Why not post a picture of your setup.

Well, You could get a 75 gallon rubbermaid tub much cheaper than a tank or even cage at your local hardware store.
