There's about 40 million people over 50 years old in the work force - pay them $1 million apiece severance with stipulations.

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house/pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

4) They buy stock. Voila! The stock market rebounds with no help from the feds.

yeah, but then we have 40 million more geriatrics milling around in their new cars at 15mph with nothing to do but play bingo and sit at diners.

Where does the $1 million for each of the 40 million people (10 trillion, more than the current budget plan) come from?

That would actually be $40 trillion total. Money has to come from someplace...Sure we could just print it, but what happens when you inject that sum of money into the economy? It dilutes all the money thats already out there, becuse you've just increased the total number of dollars without actually adding any value. Result - enormous inflation. Not saying that we're not going to have to deal with that anyway, but its not quite as simple as "well, just print more money".

*cough* The Venus Project *cough* want something good to watch? Check out Zeitgeist...

"Just printing more money" is exactly what the current plan is based on. The sad fact is, the same thing has been done before, and it never worked. Theoretically if they stop printing money at just the right time, the plan will succeed.
When has the government EVER done ANYTHING exactly right? :headshake2:

now you're not saying that all 50 + or geriatrics are you? some of these over 50 could contribute their time to the younger generation that have no since of responsibility or care due to the lack of attention at home. who knows if the people showed them how to be responsible we may have less crime and violence which may just free up some of the taxpayers money that is spent on the prisons, guards, supplies, judges etc. then that money could be put to some better use..
