I am in the market for A UV Sterilizer for my 75 Gallon Long Planted Tank. I have 1 Veil Tailed Angel fish, 10 Black Skirt Tetras, 3 White Cloud Minnows, 4 Zebra Loaches and 4 Clown Loaches in the Aquarium which is filtered by two H.O.T. Magnum's and also has Two Sponge Filters in the tank powered by an air Pump. I was wondering if anyone has any experience that they would like to share about a good UV Sterilizer or if they just know of a good one. I would prefer a submersible one and I have seen some that are a pump and UV Sterilizer in one unit like the Submariner UV, and that seems like the way to go. I am going to get this to help prevent Ich on my loaches (along with Weekly 25-30% water changes) as I heard that these can help greatly.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Darin

I bought a 24w "green machine" from Petsmart for $60 to help deal with recurrent cyanobacteria & columnaris problems. It's only been ~3 weeks & plant growth is better & cyano is greatly reduced.

The unit is quite large but I'm hoping it will only be used on a temporary basis. I like that it is all in one, the downside is it's all in tank.

What size tank do you have the 24W Green Machine in? I have looked at that one online and I am trying to picture how much tank space it will take up. I might end up going that route as it sounds like the most economical solution if I can fit it in my tank (without taking up to much space). Thank you for your reply.

Own it, use it (in my 90 gallon tall Lake Tang rift setup), love it. Highly recommended.

completely off topic....drvader is that a Fallout 2 screencap? LOVE IT.

I've got a coralife turbo twist, 18w, that I use on the pond in the summer to prevent green water. Never used one on a tank though.

24w is in a 75g & ~ 15 inches x 3 plus the powerhead outlet. It seems like almost half the tank LOL. Since I didn't know what to expect I didn't try to hide it. It was floaty & awkward until I got the air out.

There is also a 9w "green machine" for $40 but it's only recommended for up 50g & they were out at my Petsmart.

I think a UV that hangs on the back might be better for more permanant use. I also want to be able to use it on more than 1 tank especially a quarantine tank so I didn't want an "in line" uv.

I don't have this one because we have sump so we have a 25 watt rainbow life and love it. I have heard a lot of good comments on this one that DrWader suggested. This summer we are getting a larger tank for my son's fish and I plan on getting this UV sterilizer. Since your tank is a 75 gallon I would suggest getting the 9 watt on that is good up to 100 gallons.

Thank you to everyone for your help. I decided to try the 24W Green Killing Machine from Petsmart. I might also try to get the Submariner in the future so that I will be able to compare the two. The main reason I am going with the Green Killing Machine over the Submariner is that the Green Killing Machine is 24 W instead of a max of 9 W for the Submariner. Eventually I would like to get a hang on tank UV Sterilizer but for now I hope that this will work.
Again thank you for your replies,
Darin

Just to let everyone know, the green killing machine is awesome. I bought it and placed it in my 75 Gallon Aquarium, right before I placed it in my aquarium I noticed that one of my Clown Loaches had Ich, (I have had Ich in a tank previously and that is why I decided to get a UV Sterilizer as the medicine was hard on the fish) well needless to say after two or three days the Ich was gone and has yet to return. I even went on vacation and left my Wife to take care of my fish and came back with no problems at all (except for some fat Clown and Zebra Loaches). I would highly recommend this unit to anyone that wants a UV Sterilizer and has a big enough aquarium to house this unit.
