hey maybe you can help me...

the heater in my aquarium (1-2 months old) (aquaeron<sp> underwater heater)
has started making a pop sound when it turns on and maybe off too, im not sure about that though... anyway it does not do it all the time...
is this normal or should i get myself a new one???

It's normal. Heaters will "click" when they turn on/off.

Ive had some that sound like the tank cracking they were so loud.

I have a Whisper 200 Watt (30-60 Gal. Model) and it is pretty quiet in my 29 gal tank. I don't really notice it unless I am standing by the tank and actually listen for it and I still often can't hear it. Most any good brand heater should do. I have heard very good things about Jager (sp?) heaters.

My Aqueon heater used to click randomly when it was on. I called their tech support and they said it was normal. But being the person I am, I fiddled with it anyway and noticed the rubber cap thing on the bottom was a little lose and was letting water into it. (Not into the actual heating element area, but in the cup that wraps around the glass) The water I am guessing evaporated quickly enough or something and made the popping noise. Ever since I tightened it down, I haven't heard a peep from it. Makes for much quieter evenings, it used to wake me up at night.

One of mine started making this noise recently, just to make things more annoying it started doing it after I moved my tank, making me all the more worried my tank was cracking.

I only discovered it was the heater after about 2 weeks, I noticed it was only doing it in the evenings, and soon noticed only when the light on the heater was on. Its annoying, but far less annoying than a cracked tank!!
