I just bought the protein skimmer for my bio cube last week. I'm not exactly sure if I'm using it correctly as this is my first fowlr tank. I pulled out the main filter and replaced it with the skimmer unit, which I'm sure is right. The main question/problem I'm having is how high to I want the bubbles to be, and the only thing that seems to be collecting in top is foam. Is that "foam" what is supposed to be in there or what? Sorry if this makes no sense, I'm still a newb.

Pretty much with any skimmer the foam is the goal. The faster the foam the more liquid the skimmate, slower gets thicker. Also, skimmers typically have a "break in" period before running at optimum. As far as the filter is concerned I personally run them on all of my fowlr tanks mainly for extra filtration and water movement but also for adding media such as carbon, etc. If you don't have a sump that is.

I have the same protein skimmer. As far as the bubble level you will just have to toy with it until you reach your desired skimmate. If you turn it up too much, the collector will just fill with water. If you turn it down too far the bubbles wont reach the collection cup. So just mess with it and find the happy medium.

There should be a spot to latch the skimmer onto the filtration. Just have to remove the bio-ball drip tray.
