Pleco problem——please help!!

Hi,

About six weeks ago, I introduced a pleco into my 55-gallon, which has 17 other fish. He was doing fine for a while, hanging out on the side of the glass. He wasn't eating any of the flake food, but the algae disappeared in a few days and I gave him an algae cookie now and then.

Suddenly he's not looking so good, though. He's exclusively on the gravel now, not the side, his eyes look glazed over and he his color is dulling. He's been like this for about a week. I'm assuming this is a bad sign—no? Is there any way to save him? Is he a danger to the other fish?

In the future, anybody have any tips for feeding a pleco effectively in a community tank?

Thanks,

Greg

what other fish does he have in there with him? what kind of plec is he? does he have driftwood? he could be either stressed out by his tank mates, injured by aggressive fish or he may need some driftwood as that ia an essential part of their diet, depending on the species. he could also be sick iif there is a lot of poo in the bottom of the tank and he is spending a lot of time there.

some veggies...
