Hi,

I'm new here. I'm thinking about starting an aquarium, so I've been reading forums and other websites and looking at types of fish. I know that I want a peaceful community tank. I was thinking of having some Zebra Danios, some small tetras (not sure what kind) and some corys. First of all, would this combination work? If so, what size aquarium would I need? I know all of these are schooling fish, so I'll need enough room for several of each, but I'm having trouble figuring out a required tank size.

Thanks for any advice,

Melissa

If you have the budget try to get at least a 20 gallon (preferably a long instead of high tank). That should give you plenty of room for a small school of danios (5-6) and a small school of small to medium tetras (5-6) and a nice school of cories (5-7). Add some plants and you have a nice little setup right there.

There are tons of tetras to choose from but try and get a hardier one as danios are really zipped spastic fish that could irritate less ahrdy tetras. Silver tips, glow lights, head and tail light, emporer are all fine choices.

Alternatively you could also put a nice school of barbs in there like cherry barbs, or checker board barbs instead of the tetras.

I agree a 20 should be fine... Look at the cost diff, last i checked a 20 long and a 30 were only about 10-15 bucks in price difference... If so, I'd say get the 30 gallon.

Thanks for the answers. I think I'm going to go with a 20 gallon, since money and space are both factors. Would lemon tetras do well with the zebras and the corys?
