Every time I turn on the news its just reports of how ugly humanity is. Like this morning, I get up, have my coffee turn on the TV and what do I hear???? Hum, a man stabs his 9 year old sister to death and then beheads his 4 year old sister?!?!?! WHAT THE :swear: IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE????? and the next story, 9 shot including children in a murder suicide. I cant believe how people are. Then a man kills elderly people in a nursing home!!!!! Then you switch to the shallow and empty headlines, who care what type of pizza actors and musicians like. Maybe I give a good darn if they were sharing that with the poor. All the headlines are ugly and so are the people involved! Then I start channel surfing, and whats on TV??? Nothing more than empty, vain, and totally useless people. Reality shows all about being as sleazy as you can be, and having NO self control, and the worse you are, the higher your chances are of winning. I don't know about you, but I have no hope left in humanity. Pain, grief, and ugly is all we have brought to the world. sorry for my rant, but I needed to take an emotional :swear:.

That's why I skip to the funnies... I think this mornings headlines where about 5 people being shot in a murder/suicide. Don't worry so much though, it's only the bad 1% of people that make the news usually.

No news is good news.
And that's the world's truth.
I hate TV. I don't even watch it anymore.
Pain, murder, death, crisises (crisee?) everywhere...
Humanity is on the decline once again.

If you have young children those things get to you even more, I understand. In real life, I have to treat sex offenders... it doesn't get worse than that.
Just really make an effort to seek out the positive.

To be totally honest with you, when I see stories like the ones today, and I hear that the cops shot the suspect dead, I want to cheer. To be brutally honest with you, I would love to be the police officer who's bullet dropped a person how would do something that ugly to someone else! I just cant stand it.

how old was the "man" who has a sister age 9 and age 4? Sure that wasnt a teenager?
just wondering. Since it appears young people today dont understand death is forever; since they play all those games that allow you to re-incarnate a few minutes later.
Ok enogh of my psychological contemplation as to why a person would act on an impulse...that......
Avoiding television does not make the world a better place it just increases ignorance aobut what goes on in the world or the neighborhood. To me it is better to be outraged,,and say enough is enough and get people to understand that we do not need machine guns to hunt for food, we do not need automatic weapons to hunt for food and forage for berries. We dont even need knives cause the majority of us eat out more than we eat at home and the restaraunt provides them..
And gun control wont solve a thing..what will stop this violence is SELF Control, something that we have been told by madison avenue, wall street and every major corporation we dont need which is why the economy is in the mess it is in.
Till humans stand up and say heck no, i am not buying it, i dont need it,,,we will not improve.......oh did i mention i saw this really beautiful fishtanks at a cheap price..I am picking it up tomorrow :)

having a good friend who is a State Trooper, I agree with you. the thing is, explain to me how a officer can be sued for killing a person who killed someone else or about to kill the officer. IMO, screwed up system we have. DUI has a worse penalty than most sex offenders.

I know!!! But that being said, when I was about 9, my uncle was murdered by Nazi wannabes. I knew he was gone. I grieved for him for a long time. How could someone not know what pain they inflict on others. How can anyone not understand death? My 5 years old knows the heaviness of death for gods sake! It seems as thou people are taught to be human garbage. Anyone who practices self restraint, humility, honor, nobility and general goodness are looked down upon as being stupid, lame or weak. To bad we don't go back the way life was handled in the "Cowboy" days. When your actions decided your fate on the spot. Yeah, there may be more bloodshed, but it will be blood that has earned its fate.

Yeah, and if I had my choice I wouldn't but it is the only work I can find at the moment. Also, these guys are the ones that did very horrible things and did not get jail time. We can't just let them roam around the streets. They have to have very intensive therapy in order to protect others from being hurt by them.
Many people don't realize how many offenders don't even get jail time, some of them even raped and attempted to murder children. I get very angry with them and find it very difficult sometimes, even as a professional therapist.

Just look outside your window everyday and think back on all the experiences you had with people throughout your life. Murder and mayhem are likely no where to be found. Fond memories and good people are everywhere. That is what counts.
Fortunately the news corporations aren't interested in that though, or they'd be harrassing us all the time for an interview. :D

And exactly how does "going back to cowboy days" provide anyone with self restraint? morals? ethics? humility?
sorry but perhaps a little less cowboy attitude and a little more:
gandhi, mother theresa, martin luther king jr, Buudha, Jesus, and God's own words: Turn the other cheeK" might be a greater form of humility, compassion, and self restraint.

Yes because howdy doody, playing cops and robbers, or cowboys and indians totally ruined generations of people. Before we go scapegoating the media, lets just chalk it up to awful parenting or mental issues and leave it at that.
As for the media's role in all this, (since it's a breeze thread), Check Immortal Technique's song The Fourth Branch.

My uncle was murdered when he was 22 by 2 skin heads, they hit him in the head with a crow bar and pushed him in the street where he was hit by a car going 55mph, they got away with it, because his head was so smashed in due to the street, they said they didn't know if the crowbar was the reason he died. My cousin Jessica was shot and killed when she was 9, her mother was shot trying to save her. The man who did this was drunk and mad because the kids in the neighborhood were being to loud. The he set his home on fire and died. This was in San Diego about 10 years back. It was all over TV. Maybe you saw you it.

I'm sorry to hear your what happened to your family. But you probably know that because of those experiences, you may view things differently than others.
DooSPX,
I have the same problem, I work with so many negative people and I get very paranoid about others when they are all probably good natured people.
People are violent because of many reasons, could be gang influence, past abuse, mental disorders, or sometimes brain damage can cause the lack of inhibition and ability to empathize. It's a long discussion...

Not all tv is bad, you just need to know what to watch. I just had my cable disconnected after 26 years and now I watch public television. Some of the best tv I've watched in a long time. I used to mostly watch the educational stations on cable , I do miss those but I can find alot of stuff on the internet to watch. I also have cut back alot on watching news because of all the crappay news BS.
There are good people out there , look at this site , Ize thinks that we seem like a good bunch :)
I saw where people started emailing Brian Williams and requested that he start introducing some good new in his program and he has started to do that.
When I see stupid people stuff every day I just say "It's PEOPLE, IT'S PEOPLE I TELL YA"

Heh to base humanity as a whole on what you see on TV is well...bad idea anyway.
If there was a news camera available at every soup kitchen, or some guy handing out his lunch to some homeless guy ...or some kid helping an old lady cross the street
Im sure there would be more good in this world showing over bad. Problem is..news is business and bad news = ratings = money.
Though you don't see all the good in the world on the news. It doesn't mean it isn't in the world in an abundance. Its there. Just never on TV.

Hmm. Pretty minimal murder news in the newspaper, I read that rather than watch TV for my news. When I do see it, it is disgusting, though. In a nearby town a woman strangled her 12 year old daughter to death because she was "interfering with her relationship with her boyfriend". The last words the girl said, according to the mother, were "Please, mommy, don't...".
:mad2:
She didn't plead guilty for a couple years. What disgusts me about Canada is that the most jail time you can get for anything is 25 years. Life in jail = 25 years maximum. And no executions :bs:

Bad news is blasted with trumpets and drums while good new is whispered for fear of offending anyone.
Prisoners have rights, dug dealers have rights, sex criminals have rights. everyone has rights escept the honest guy/girl trying to raise a healthy and respected family.
Prisoners weren't at fault because..... Drug dealer have to deal because.... sex offenders aren't at fault because their parents/family/stranger. . . . . Those excuses are nothing more than horse dung and the person claiming it is the north end of a south bound donkey! An excuse no matter how pitiful is a way to refuse to take responsibility for one's own actions. It places the blame on something else. As long as we allow and tolerate the refusal to accept responsibility it is going to get worse.
Don't give me the "feel good', "aw shucks" excuse - hold people fully accountable for their actions. Sex offenders that truly want help and to not offend can seek out help BEFORE offending. Once they have offended it becomes a convenient excuse for their actions. This applies to anyone in any setting.
A person can live a life because of something or in-spite of something. The choice is theirs. Don't you dare tell me it can't be done, I know better.
I don't bother with tv I have enough problems with myself, lol

I'm just glad that we get to live in countries where fear isn't THAT much of a daily thing. I can go out and be mostly assured that I won't die.
I also live in a small, historic town too, so crime really isn't that big of a deal, only 3 people murdered that I know of since I've lived here. Not too many drugs, or crime (well, I know of a lot of people in school (I think 4 kids are the main distributors) that sell drugs (no I don't do them), but we have WAY less than other places)... But, with all these people my age being the idiots that they are, gangs are starting to pop up. Not huge gangs, but the beginnings of them.
Over in Iraq they can't say that they can make it back from the local grocery store and not die... Africa? They can't say that either. I really feel sorry for all of those innocent people who live over there and can't leave due to financial stipulations or just not being able to.
With the whole extermination thing, I agree but, I don't agree.
I think a life time of boring, same old thing until you die, is worse than being killed.
I think that, because when we kill, we do it humanely and quick.
Not trying to sound like a devil worshiper or anything, but I believe that child molesters, rapists, the man slaughterers, and whatever else that's completely and undeniably evil, should be tortured to death. Seriously, how many less psycho killers would we have if they knew that all that awaited them was torture and agony, not some cushy little cell where the food is free, or a sleeping shot?
AGH! The main reason that we have all of these stupid idiots running around, doing all of these insane things is because of excess. People have gotten fat, lazy, not caring, and just dumb. Parents don't care what their kids do, and kids don't respect their parents. If this depression gets really bad, and hits everyone, not HARD, but jostles you a little, I guarantee that there will be a lot less immature brats running around.
Out of every hardship comes good things.
If you're forced to help mom and dad work, or you'll lose the house, I can assure you that you won't be going out to smoke some pot on friday night.
Just, AGH, so many things I've wanted to get out for a long time.
End rant

Once they have offended it becomes a convenient excuse for their actions. This applies to anyone in any setting.
A person can live a life because of something or in-spite of something. The choice is theirs. Don't you dare tell me it can't be done, I know better.
I don't bother with tv I have enough problems with myself, lol
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!! :thm::thm::headbang2:
I really only turn on the TV for Redskins games and for 24. There is a reason for that. ;)
It's just annoying that in order to keep up with current events, even in the newspaper, you have to dredge through all the ugly stories about people beheading their 4-year-old sisters (I too saw that story and was horrified).

TV and other news/entertainment outlets gives us the most horrific or overly sensationalized stuff they can find. It's no means to base reasonable judgements about people at all. If you actually read the newspaper every morning and watch the evening news every night, you'd get so overloaded with distorted junk it would be real hard to leave your house after a while. The best thing to do is turn off the channel and get out into the REAL world. There are good, decent people everywhere still just like there always has been. Get to know your neighbors, go to events, participate in classes, clubs, churches, wherever your interests lie. You'll find much more balance if you do.
